Title Research (Parasite)

Hello, my name is Jose Retana.

Today I researched artofthetitle.com. I researched this site in order to get a feel of what is expected of me when I make my own opening sequence. I looked at the different aspects and asked myself why that was added. This helped me in my purpose of looking for a standard to meet. What also helped was seeking different conventions used throughout opening sequences. This helped me to visualize what I need. This site as well gave me a large range of films to choose from. Another reason I am researching the site is that this it gives insight/behind the scene of the people who made the opening sequence. This helped further my analysis in breaking down these opening sequences. Researching this site has given me good references.

Looking through this site, I selected the “Parasite” opening sequence to analyze and understand what I’m expected of.

What titles are displayed during the opening sequence?

- As usual, the studio who presents it and who produced it are shown first. Then it starts crediting the cast, but there is no title for the movie name. Nor is there for anything else that follows. It stops at the cast, and doesn’t include any credit to the directors or people behind the scenes like producers or costume designers.

What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

- The boy seems to be prioritized in this opening sequence. Everything has mostly dim lighting but there isn’t a lot to say. The boy seems to follow the phone however, and that could say something about the mental nature of the film.

How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?

- The film uses dim lighting to again create an unsettling feeling. It prioritizes the boy being attached to his phone and the crowded body to create a psychological effect on the viewer.
