Production: Plans Shapeshifting + Technical Difficulties

Image
Hello, my name is Jose Retana. We are back with another blog again. As you noticed by the title, there's been a slight change of plans. It's nothing that huge, just the recording schedule has taken a slight change. Recording has officially moved to the 21st-23rd of this month. Last week, I had scheduled it towards the 15th and I did record some, but it was based off unfinished storyboard slides so I had to scrap it. I have started some type of footage nowadays though.  Enough about plan changes, let's move onto the technical things I mentioned last blog. These past few days have been me trying to figure out how on earth I will turn a video into an mp3 file. One of the main problems I had was that I was on iPhone. I'm pretty sure that made the learning process 10x harder. I'm a lazy person, I don't like to learn things that take over an hour. It may seem easy to you, but I literally had to go through three different YouTube videos through this process. I did lear

Production: Adventures with Capcut

Hello bloggers, my name is Jose Retana. Today we can talk about what I have been doing to start on my music video. For one, I have not started filming my video. I thought that for now, I learn the fundamentals in order to not have trouble submitting or editing later. Something I've been doing the past few days is revising my storyboard. I'm figuring out what angles will make the most impact, what part of the song is right, and that type of stuff. I think it's good how it is now though, I've moved on past that. Now, right now, I'm concentrating on expanding skills on Capcut. For example, one thing I mentioned in my storyboard was ending my video with a fade out. I, in fact, do not know how to do that, so that's one thing I'm learning. I'm experimenting basically. I think it'll make for better editing quality.  Another thing I've been doing in place of filming is actually going to my spot. I pinpointed exactly where I would go so I don't have

Storyboard for my Music Video

Scene 1: The Establishing shot. It is a wide angle of my setting, a park. It's meant to show an awakening like the lyrics of this part suggest. I thought a pan would be good to use here as well. (0:00-0:06) Scene 2: A high angle shot of the desk inside my room. It's meant to show comfort because of the lack of lyrics. (0:06-0:12) Scene 3: Normal shot of a bed. This specific part of the lyrics related to having nothing, so I chose an empty bed. (0:12-0:18) Scene 4: Another normal shot, this time the lyrics are saying "It's too far behind to see." This lyric relates to time, a clock is appropriate. (0:18-0:24) Scene 5: This one is a long shot of a natural setting and myself. It's meant to capture nature, and the long shot makes it seem boundless and showing of everything. This related to what the lyrics of this part suggest, "I can show you everything." (0:24-0:30) Scene 6: This part is more related the meaning of the whole song, which one is the unde

Planning for my Music Video

Hello, my name is Jose Retana, and we're back with another blog. I've spent the last few days planning so now I'll bullet what I've done. I'm also going to give credit to the song artist in a moment.  Song: Pluto Projector  Artist: Rex Orange County https://youtu.be/Pi9J4epTWGM?si=is9CYsZIAtjyok7g Schedule: 10/15/2023, right after my birthday, and on a Sunday for ample time. Time: Preferably at sunset so it looks better and fits better with my theme of emotions.  Lighting: Moderate, a mix of dark and light to spread attention. Location: A peaceful location with scenery like the park, reflects my theme Backup plan: In case of rain or other occasion, I record at home with my brother, who will be helping me anyway with the video.  In case of bad lighting, I will bring a LED lighting stick or accommodate the best possible lighting situation.

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
Hello, my name is Jose Retana and I'm back with another blog. Today, I'll be examining the conventions in my music video. The song I chose is Pluto Projector by Rex Orange County. Here is the music video for reference:  https://youtu.be/Pi9J4epTWGM?si=BKXBYY3qHkEKrevH Let's start off by identifying anything that is not sound like camera angles and props:  (Entire video, God's eye view of a music disc) (Entire video, continuous rotating disc with a setup prop ) (Entire video, notepad prop, music video singer picture ) Next, sound. (Lyrics aren't generally considered voiceover, hence why I don't include that) (3:00 to 3:56, the repeated instrumental is a sound motif that adds a sweet tone to the song) (0:54, sound bridge/musical bridge , became more upbeat, used to show the time passing) (Entire video, ambient sound, and vocals behind the singer)

My Group for the Music Video: Alone again!!!

Image
Hello bloggers, my name is Jose Retana and I'm back with another blog. Last time we talked about myself, and I formally introduced myself and my hobbies. I also introduced the next project we have to work on. This project is a music video with a storyboard. I have begun the video, but only the song and storyline.  In this project, I have decided to work alone. I actually HAD a group, but I left after reviewing the project rubric because the video was way too much communicating. It would straight up be too time consuming to have to tell everyone to put this exactly on their blogs. Everyone was cool of course, but that's how I ultimately ended up working alone.  Even though that sounds sad, I actually love working alone. It takes so much less time and communication. It's just so peaceful to not have to check on anybody to see if they're on the same page as you, AND you get to go ahead. I really just wanted to get the project done. I even weighed out the cons of working a

Introduction to the Music Video: Hello again

Image
Hello, my name is Jose Retana. In my last project, I learned a lot. Now I'm doing another project, but this time a music video. So, we're dealing with a little twist. I won't be discussing any details of the project in this blog post, but I will be the next blog. The only thing I really did so far was brainstorm a location and find a schedule, oh, and find a song which I've now done all of. Anyway, let me use this blog to introduce myself again.  As I said, my name is Jose, but I also love basketball. Now I'm not really good at it, but I do enjoy watching it. If you remember, which you likely don't, I love the Milwaukee Bucks. A lot has changed in the Bucks since the last time I talked about them. They've gotten so much scarier as a franchise since the day I talked about them. That's right, they've acquired Damian Lillard from the Trailblazers and I love every minute of it. If you don't know who that is, don't worry about it.  Something else
