Final Task Review 2

Image
Hello, my name is Jose Retana. Yesterday I asked two people, my brother and my cousin, to give feedback on my film. Today I will be discussing the changes that I made from that feedback.  Firstly, I listened to the transition feedback both people gave me. I agree, it was a part that was lacking in my film. I began by looking at every single transition CapCut offered and agreed on one. I didn't add transitions for all clips. When I tried that, it looked very out of place, so I went with just adding transitions every now and then.  I also added an effective transition with the paper flashback I talked about in my storyboard. I tried to mimic the transition flashback from the movie Se7en. I kept going back to artofthetitle.com to replicate it and I think I did a good job.  That's it bloggers!

Final Task Review 1

Hello bloggers, my name is Jose Retana. Last time we went through music and why I made the choices I made. Today, we will share our final task with another person. The person I shared it with first was my brother.  I booted it up and showed the film to him. He did help me record, so it might be a little biased. I will choose another unrelated person later in this blog so I can perhaps get a different result.  First, he said he liked most of my video, and that it was good. However, he did tell me some areas to improve. Add smoother transitions Add a better transition between the paper flashback I have to say I agree with these. Let's look at another person who's going to judge my film, my cousin. He basically said the same thing but with another feedback. Add better lighting Again, I agree but it might take a little while to add lighting because I have never done it before. I need experience but I'll definitely try in the next blog. See you again bloggers!

Music 1: Final Task

Image
Hello bloggers, my name is Jose Retana. We have officially finished filming and editing. Today, I will just guide you through my music. First, I researched the psychological thriller genre again and concluded that it relies on engaging the viewer's emotions and intellect. So, I didn't want any soundtrack that was ominous, just suspenseful.  Suspense is important because you also want to play with emotions, but I made sure to avoid only relying on it. I knew my plot would be the one that would play with intellect. While the suspenseful music builds it all up.  The music I used was one I found on YouTube. It is copy-right free as the creator says to use this for your project in the description, so there aren't worries about that. With that dealt with, I added it to my project. It fit surprisingly well because there were rising parts of suspense. The music matched the plot points on the first try.  I did choose music before which took me to the conclusion of using suspenseful

Editing 3: Final Task

Hello bloggers, my name is Jose Retana. Last blog we added titles. Today we're going to wrap up editing.  So, a big part of my video is the detective dialogue you saw in the script. However, the only actor is me. So you're probably asking who did the detective lines. Nobody. Nobody did it, it's actually a text-to-speech file I just got from Google. I simply looked up text-to-speech AI voice, typed the dialogue, and edited it into my task.  Why? I wasn't working with anyone. I had nobody to work with so I pulled the smart card and it worked well. I did have to add some emphasis at times to the text-to-speech voice because it sounded bland, but it worked out.  I didn't have to ask anybody, not even my brother. The hardest part about the voice was finding one with an ominous tone. As for me, it was a bit hard trying to sound stressed during voiceovers, but I found that pretending like you're running helps. I had a lot of fun recording and inserting my part. It w

Editing 2: Final Task

Hello bloggers, my name is Jose Retana. Last time I had to completely redo my filming for it to sync with the voiceover. CapCut is just very buggy. Today we're going to do the second part of editing my final task. This blog is mostly just adding sound effects and titles. Like I said before, I added a telephone ringing sound that I found on YouTube. I made sure to look in the description, and yes, it was copyright-free. I didn't have to worry about that so I was relieved. I did the normal split in the video and inserted it in. I actually did some CapCut projects for some other classes. My most recent one was for AICE Sport and Physical Education, where we were splitting our videos and adding images to them. This made the process of editing the final task so much easier.  It also made the addition of titles simpler. I knew exactly where to look to add them because I had to do something similar for AICE P.E. I'm glad I got previous experience and I also thank the past project

Editing 1: Final Task

Hello bloggers, my name is Jose Retana. Today we will begin editing and the process. Spoilers, it was not as easy as I thought it would be. It just never is. After I transported everything to CapCut, I began to organize the clips. That's when I ran into a problem. CapCut sucks! The entire clip sounded muffled and inaudible. I tried transporting it again, but the same problem stuck. I even tried other editing software, but I just couldn't figure them out.  So I brainstormed solutions with my brother, who uses CapCut on the daily and he suggested I simply add voiceovers and film again. Now, it was a school day but I had the whole afternoon free and I did just that. It was very easy and didn't take much time because I had done this twice before.  I piled up the muted clips and began adding voiceovers to them. During the filming, I refrained from showing clips of me speaking (muted) so that I wouldn't have to sync so much in the voiceovers. With that, I found it not too di

Filming 4: Final Task

Image
Hello bloggers, my name is Jose Retana. Today we will be going through my official filming for scene three and what I had to do. Scene three by far gave me the most trouble out of any of the scenes. I knew beforehand that this was probably going to be the most difficult scene to film because of the acting required.  Here I was, in my room alone with only my brother holding the camera. Meanwhile, I was trying to do an Oscar-worthy performance. I failed many times. I wouldn't even say the final result was good by any means, just average. So, don't expect a lot of course, this is just a school project after all. It took me many attempts to get one that I was satisfied with. That was the most difficult part.  I think it took around 12 takes to finally get it right. Additionally, I didn't have to worry too much about titles as that would be added during editing. I restored my room, put everything in its place, and commenced editing. Before that, I needed my scenes transported o
